the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.

Have you ever found yourself pondering the elusive nature of inspiration, wondering where creativity truly springs from? It's actually a common contemplation for creators. Reflecting on my experience at Jessica Drossin's workshop, I discovered valuable insights that shed light on my unlikely source for inspiration.

I've come to understand that creativity often emerges from the ordinary in our lives, hidden in plain sight within our daily routines. Whether it's the comfort of our homes or in view during our commute, inspiration lies in these seemingly commonplace moments. In our fast-paced society, taking a brief moment to truly observe our environment can become ideas.

For Jessica, an idea revealed itself in a playground that her and her children frequented. A stretch of tree roots with a captivating texture caught her attention, embedding itself in her memory until the right creative moment. Returning with her camera, she translated this observation into a captivating portrait, showcasing the beauty hidden in the familiar.

Double Exposure Creative Self-Portrait

Take a Moment

Childhood dreams of ancient Egypt, fueled by tales of Howard Carter's explorations, led me on a creative journey. The allure of movies like Stargate, with their intricate production and wardrobe choices, inspired me to embark on a self-portrait project. The selection of each garment, meticulously adorned with vibrant, precious stones, distinguishing the Pharaoh. Inspired by the artistry within the film, I started a creative project, attempting to recreate the Stargate aesthetic for a self-portrait project.

A visit to my local Value Village became a treasure hunt, acquiring costume pieces for under $10. With the soft illumination from a window and strategically positioning a bounce card opposite my light source, I achieved the perfect lighting. With a touch of Photoshop magic, I brought to life the magnificence of ancient Egypt, perhaps preparing a wardrobe for the day they unearth that mythical portal.
